JUVENTUS ALL-TIME XI

Juventus All-time XI

A 15 players squad choice. Amongst many possibilites :
- From the team of Quinquennio d'oro with its defensive ensemble Combi (Goalkeeper), Rosetta (right back), Caligaris (left back), Monti (centre-half) plus the argentineans forwards Renato Cesarini (spearhead inside forward), Orsi (outside), the French-Italian Felice Borel (centre forward), Giovanni Ferrari (the double World Champion, conducting inside forward or "playmaker"). Also, Bertolini the left wing-half.
- Besides Boniperti, from the 50s, when the "fashion" but maybe most of all the necessity was to have Scandivian players in his ranks in the calcio, we'll cite the winger scorer of goals Praest, the capocannoniere 1952 John Hansen and another striker in Karl Aage Hansen, all Danes and strong that John Charles (Welsh) replaced at the end of the decade. Also, there was the legendary Italian defender Caro Parola, kind of Jerry West of Football as it is him who served as a  model for the footballer illustrating the Panini's albums.

Pietro Rava (1935-1946 and 1947-1950) is another defender we can think of thinking Juventus even if more known for his palmarès with the Italian National Team rather for his palmarès with Juventus as he played between those two golden eras of the club, the one of the first half of the 30s and the one of the late 50s-early 60s.
- For the period 58-61, apart from the duo Charles-Sivori wich was the main asset of the team with Boniperti as a regulator of the team's game, we'll cite the forwards Nicolé (centre forward) and Stacchini (winger), the defenders Castano (centre back) and Cervato (left back) even if not really candidates to make the All-time XI.
-Always with Castano (now captain) and Stacchini in the team, Juventus won the Scudetto in 1967 with the following notable players : Luis Del Sol (former Real Madrid, Spanish, piston of the midfield), the Brazilian Chinesinho (midfield), the defender Salvadore, future European Champion of Nations and the forwards Menichelli and Zigoni, whose names can't be forgotten even if the 15 are tranquilous concerning that "concurrence" that is not so high than the one of the Quinquennio d'oro, wich definitively constitue the most interesting panel of players as possible replacements for the first XI. But disavantaged by the era they belong to, surely.
-From the 70s (5 National titles and the first European win in '77 in UEFA Cup) and his vastly boring football, one artist's name stands out in Bettega's one. Roberto Bettega, an elegant and complete forward who could hold many, well all,  positions in attack and who could be the 16th man of the team. Another one technical (and hard-working enough) player was Causio, offensive midfielder/ winger. The names of Anastasi, Marchetti, Benetti, Capello and the names of Salvadore always, Cucurreddu, Furino, Morini who all fulfill their duty can't be ommited. Foreign players as Haller (West Germany) and the Brazilian-Italian Altafini also made an important contribution. Like Boninsegna who joined Juventus ranks coming from Inter.
-The 70s is also the decade of the Zoff, Gentile, Scirea, Tardelli then Cabrini who would know the big exposure of the 80s with the epxlosion of the medias as they would know the greatest serie of titles in the club's history with Platini as his technical leader on the pitch.
-The 80s, with Zoff (until '83, then replaced by Tacconi), Gentile, Scirea, Cabrini, Tardelli and of course Platini (all in the best XI) is also the decade of the Rossi (back in the club after several transferts, whilst he was Juventus' propriety at his very beginnings), of the Polish Boniek whose Platini has made good use of his speed. Bettega was, like Zoff, in the team until '83 and the lost against Hamburg in the Champions Cup Final. In the very early years of the decade, the Irish Brady, who did not demerit, held the role of playmaker of the team before being replaced by the French man number 10.
-For his part, Platini, will not have a successor as Laudrup (1985-1989) was at this time more a forward and never really replaced the triple Ballon d'or after this one stopped his career.
-In the 90s, the number 10s as they were known previously did not exist anymore and none of Zavarov or Aleinikov (more worker) took the succession. Forwards, or "9 and half" as Platini liked to say will do it with first Roberto Baggio then Del Piero for even greater effects, probably, from the last cited. But this decade has seen very good players at Juve though, like Vialli and Ravanelli who formed that tridente with Baggio then Del Piero. Like the foreign central defenders Kohler and Julio César or the midfielder Möller who all played for Dortmund as well, like the Portuguese Sousa who formed with Deschamps and Conte, Di Livio...a solid midfield - a bit later it will be Deschamps with Jugovic, Davids or Conte still. A midfield that will be topped by Zidane, in...n°10..after 95-96 for two other CL Finals but no win unlike in '96. That period was also the one of the veteran defenders Ferrara and Vierchowod, European Champion in '96 for their part.
-Other good soldiers "type Conte" for example, were previously in the 80s Brio (defender) and most of all Bonini (midfielder from San Marino). They did not had to be forgotten (some will be...there is also Pessotto and Tacchinardi, them will not be forgotten).
In the early 90s, in attack, Rui Barros had an excellent first season and a way less god second one. He then moved to Monaco. And how to not cite 'Toto' Schillaci and as we are at it, why not Casiraghi? The question is asked now. Back to the midfielders, before joining Parma, Dino Baggio gave his services to Juventus.
-The 2000s are synonymous of the Nedved years (in replacement of Zidane who joined Real for a record break transfert-free). A better replacement as expected, assuringly even if the Czech has not been hasardly recruited, him who had beyond of a good offensive game (more winger, when Zidane was central in the old fashion) also had an atonishing work-rate at midfield. Like Zidane, Nedved would be only runner-up in the Champions League, and even, not disputing the Final for wich he was suspended (2003). A big miss certainly as this match with Milan ended on a 0-0 and has been lost on penalties by the Bianconeri.
In defense, Juve could count on the Uruguayan Montero (1996-2005), and on the French Thuram (2001-2006) one of the very best defender in the Serie A of the time, and in the world (world Champion '98, like Deschamps and Zidane and runner-up in the world tournament in 2006, with Zidane). On the wings, the Italian-Argnentinean Camoranesi, maybe not as extraordinary as Orsi was, in the 30s, but who was, very usefull. And Zambrotta, a side-defender or side-midfielder, very efficient offensively. As chasers of goals, the names of Pippo Inzaghi, Christian Vieri and David Trezeguet remains in the memories and should do still for some decades again. The Felice Borels of their time. Unless it is Borel who is them at his time. In the pack, Vieri was the more powerful when the two others are almost unequalled still today in terms of pure goal scoring. Sort of latin Gerd Müller.
-Since 2007 and the come back from the Serie B, Juventus always had the all-time great Buffon in his ranks, him who is still playing at the age of 37, and at a very high personal level (Zoff played until his 41). Before him in defense, Chiellini, Barzagli and Bonucci, three very solid and reliable defenders. At midfield, the iconic Italian playmaker Andrea Pirlo joined the club from Milan in 2011 and definitively marked the club's history, holding a role of emperor at midfield. Played alongside him the Chilean Vidal (now at Bayern Munich), the Italian international player Marchisio and of course one of the greatest revelations in the last years, the French Paul Pogba who is in line with Platini, Deschamps, Zidane in the rich club's history with French players. In attack, Tévez finally started to score goals in Champions League for Juventus to reach that runner's up place of 2015. Before moving back to Argentina. At least he left his mark even if he did not stayed a long time. He was at this occasion associated to the young Spanish Morata onto wich, jointly with new recruit Dybala (Argentine), much hopes lie today (dec. 2015).
