RSCA 1970 2_A

Above, Pierre Sinibaldi's RSCA 4-2-4 beating Arsenal in the first leg home by 3 goals to 1 was in the second leg, at Highbury, on muddy ground, undermined by incessant attacks on his right flank, which completely distorted the starting plan of the Belgian formation. Thus, Heylens, always pressured, was unable to exit the ball. For his part, Van Himst had to migrate to the right and stay here, just as Desanghere who had to cover this part of the pitch in addition to the centre, that in a lateral movement.Nordahl more than Desanghere was the most able to raise forward, but again, not Heylens, pressed by the attack. In other words, with the only Nordahl as a link man, the Anderlecht team was cut in two. And leaning to the right, unable to re-start on the opposite side, where the usual left winger Puis, consequently had to  cover a large portion of the pitch, all alone. In the first leg, the Anderlecht team was able to occupy all the zones of the ground. Notin the second leg  match where, also a little too sure of their fact (what Van Himst said in a biography, Puis pissed even on a wall of the mythical enclosure before the match), they completely underwent the events. The result was a 3-0 win for Arsenal (about the importance of an away goal, even at 1-3 of course) who won here his first trophy for 17 years.
In the quarter-finals, however, Anderlecht had been defeated at Newcastle, which might have served as a lesson.
