Lyon needed to beat Bayern, group leader in the CL second phase, and that with a big margin of goal in order to steal the second place to Arsenal. In other words, they had to make a true feat. Lyon will finally stand at the third place. Arsenal will be beaten by Valencia in the quarter-finals and Bayern would win the cup over the same Valencia at the end of a penalty shootout (1-1 a.e.t, 5-4).
Govou scores again against Bayern in the 2008-2009 CL group stage and finds the post. Insufficient. 3-2 for Bayern in Stade-Gerland. The Bavarians keep the 1st place after this "final of group".
Lyon will be eliminated in the round of 16 by the eventual winner Barcelona. Without Govou who missed the second half of the season.
It is against Barcelona that the French man scores his last European goal, one year after. With Pana.
He scored the opener in Camp Nou but FC Barcelona then netted 5 times.
