With Cruijff to spring out from the "classic 10" position, breaking through the midfield line, also through the middle. Neeskens stays at covering.
If Cruijff becomes LW, I like having Keizer behind Rep, to be a solution for a back pass or to play potential second balls with his good shooting. Rep "the eel" has also this asset that he can also shoot from far.
In this more or less "new" configuration, Krol will be less attacking than he sometimes can (will push less far), allowing him to focus even more on defending his quarter of the pitch.
On the right, "Mr. Ajax", Sjaak Swart (who was rested enough and still shows good shape), quite similarly to Krol, will take care of his quarter of the pitch both offensively (as he mostly did against Benfica in the first round) and defensively (as he mostly did against Real II, in the first round too). As it will be Abidal and not Marcelo, he should have a very balanced role, on a half of the pitch where we don't want to see Iniesta to be found too often too. On defense, he's a first riddle to annoy the exit of the ball. On attack, a fulcrum (inside or outside) and a piston/ wing-forward.
Although it was not a debate anyway, in this match, it's also better having Blankenburg who's more sweeping behind than a Vasovic who's more at sweeping before, although all the Ajax defenders are complete defenders covering each other.
The offensive output of Suurbier will be depending on what the opponent propose on that part of the pitch so we start the match on a "balanced tasks" idea, to be modulated according to how it goes but we keep in mind there's a winger to guard.
Getting back to Cruijff, he's also there to challenge Xavi, both ways, i.e. when in possession or when Xavi is searched by one of his partners or already in possession, this without depriving our side of his abilities of acceleration, vision but also finishing when he includes himself as a striker.
When he goes into what would be more the "Busquets zone", again, Neeskens is not far from him to compensate and stays more in the same zone as Xavi.
It was difficult to explain to Gerrie that he would not play but we talk to him about the rule of "two times max the same XI" and also it's not like he defended better or did anything better than Cruijff. His defending was mainly about positioning when Cruyff can also recover the ball with octopus tackles and re-start immediately.
In addition to the classic presentation, here are some of the moves, the ones which were already described plus one (taking in account just the main players who are implied :
Classic :
Cruyff goes through the centre from his initial position (when in possession) or he chooses to change for this during a little while (Neeskens knows what he has to do in consequence) :
= is the same as the following, so that's just the "classic 10" thing which can be either "flat" or "triangular" during the match. Cruyff and Neeskens just switch laterally (Cruyff is still presented a bit advanced to show he's the "10", well 14 but we can't change the numbers on tacticalboards.com).
Cruyff goes LW :
Rep drops back to propose solutions, for example to play a one-two with Cruyff :
