Now the game dangerous for the health that is about making an all-time XI.

AC MILAN ALL-TIME XI

AC MILAN ALL-TIME XI

Some explanations : that was about to have the players with most impact in AC Milan's history in an acceptable ensemble. In the woods, the underrated Rossi (way too much criticized when not good, what happens, and not praised enough when doing well) takes the spot over the legendary Lorenzo Buffon (who missed the 1958 European Cup Final) and even over Dida who shown great displays too. In defence, I hear you asking why 3 defenders only (when Milan is known for his 4-men defence practicing zonal marking) and what Desailly is doing here? Simple : it liberates one spot in attack and once again it is about to have the players with the biggest impact on the club'story. If it is mandatory having the duo Baresi-Maldini, it was however quite hard to choose between Panucci, Tassotti or Anquiletti at the right back position. Desailly who replaced Rijkaard more than well at midfield had to make this XI so it is here in a position he knew in his early career at OM. As for Rijkaard, he finds his place at midfield in the role of the 4th defender here (even if often present in the offensive situations during his stint in Milan) alongside Liedholm, more organizer.
The keys of the game are held by Gunnar Gren, a real "maestro", nicknamed "il professore" to be precise and by Gianni Rivera, iconic figure of the club whether a certain S.B likes it or not. Rivera, worthy heir of Schiaffino that we find here in the attack line (as it could happen to him with the Uruguayan National Team when younger) into wich the duo Basten-Gullit are starring. Gullit is here in a position that is not foreign to him as he played right forward with Feyenoord and still roamed into this zone of the pitch with Milan when turning around marco van Basten who relegates here on the bench legends as Gunnar Nordahl (the only one of the famous "Gre-no-li" trio who's not included in the team) or another great striker as Andriy Shevchenko. But there's was no contest for the #9 spot, really, when some other players  like Pirlo, Kaka...why not Seedorf too, may have more reasons to be disappointed not to make the 11. Let say it is here the team of the XXth Century (grand-sounding enough, right?) and that the stars of the era 2000-2007 will be the men to beat to make the XXIth's one.

Now, Roll of Honour :

Without forgetting Schiaffino.

  1. Hello Sir,
Just bringing to your attention a small error when you abbreviated Manchester United..., Urd was written instead of Utd...!!! :)
    Hope this helps! (see below!)

    Many thanks...

  2. Hello Sir,
Just found another small error with punctuation for "O.G.,"
Another 'full-stop' needs to be added after the "g" for "own goal"
    (see below!)

    1. Hello,
Thanks! It helps. I'll keep a lowercase letter for "O.G." though.
I'll check the other articles of the same type a bit later. There is J.Germano who should be J. Germano too. At the same time, I will not redo the draws of the teams (like with Everton '85 and G.M Stevens...should be G.M.). I take some liberties with grammar in here, this is true, especially with ponctuation, for the rest I just do what I can in English as one can see... and maybe that I'll take lessons one day, I'd like.

By passing, I've corrected some teams since they were posted. It concerned a very few of them, 3 or 4, not into this post, it was more about national teams, it was about some details which have their importance too.

      Regards,

      WM
