In attack, Titkos took Vilmos Kohut's position on the left wing since the semi-finals. Vincze imposed himself as the inside-left instead of Toldi. For the Final, Zsengeller and Vincze exchanged positions.
In defence, Polgar became the Right back instead of Koranyi only for the Final. Szucs (23 years old) only played the Final. Turai (33 years old) was the starter at the center-half position until then.

As they lined in the final with Czibor as the right winger (for Budai II who played the semis instead of, numerically, J. Toth the left or right winger) and M. Toth on the left (thus instead of Czibor) and who was in balance with Palotas, that depended on whether a winger or an inside-forward was needed what had to do with the current form and performances of the players as for what concerned Puskas' case who was injured. Either Budai or J. Toth did not really convinced Sebes on the right-wing. So the option taken for the Final was to have a left foot on the right-wing in Czibor and M. Toth on the left. For the result we know: Czibor was uncomfortable in this position. About the CF position wich has made the fame of this team on a tactical point of view, Hidegkuti was clearly the first choice as the deep-lying
centre-forward after his match against Germany (2nd match at Group
stage) when Palotas started at this position in the very first match
against Korea. So there was really no debate anymore that the elder player was the n°9, the number wich was assigned to him before the competition anyway. Arguably a false-debate initiated by Sebes himself or not avoided by him in any case to keep Palotas ready to help the team if needed. And it was. With Puskas in a doubtful physical form as noted (in the semis, both of Palotas and Hidegkuti played, the second filled the role of inside left in this match).

As a last note: the three midfielders had to manage with the permutations of the German offensive players so they could intervene at any corner of the pitch. But this is their positionning by default.

When Minotti entered the pitch in replacement of Parma's teammate Mussi ('37), Benarrivo switched to right-back while Minotti took the centre and Maldini took the left flank of the defense.

Batista only played in the Group Stage. Sensini played the opening-match of the World Cup (Cameroon-Argentina: 1-0) and the Final against West Germany (lost 1-0). Dezotti and Lozano had few time of play before the Final.
